We are aware of a scam email claiming to be from the "Office of State Revenue" and demanding payment of a fake reassessment notice.

If you receive such an email, do not pay anything. If you have paid, please contact your bank or financial institution in the first instance, and the Australian Government Scamwatch.

We also strongly recommend that you do not click on the links or open any attachments within the email as they may contain a malicious virus.

The scam is a poorly worded "reassessment notice" that refers to penalty tax of 15-80 per cent for an "error made in (the) process of paying an amount of tax or levy specified in a notice of assessment". The email signs off from the "Office of State Revenue: ISO 9001 – Quality Certified" from an "osr.org" email address.

Any legitimate SRO emails from official addresses always end with "vic.gov.au".

You can check the validity of any penalty notices issued in Victoria by phoning 13 21 61.
