Our role

We are the Victorian Government's revenue management agency, a semi-autonomous service agency acting under a framework agreement between the Victorian Treasurer, the Secretary of the Department of Treasury and Finance, and the Commissioner of State Revenue.

Our role is to administer Victoria's taxation legislation and collect a range of taxes, duties and levies.

As part of our compliance strategy, we investigate breaches of the various provisions of the Acts for which we are responsible. We actively pursue cases where people are not complying with their obligations. Penalties may apply and legal action may ensue as a result of our investigations.

We seek to achieve maximum voluntary compliance. Customers are encouraged to make voluntary disclosures when they have not met all of their Victorian tax obligations as these are treated more favourably than when we identify instances of non-compliance.

Customers are also encouraged to report any non-compliance they have identified or suspect.
