Follow our step-by-step guide to help you apply for a job with us.
1. Search for a job
Take a moment to check your eligibility to work with us.
Search our current vacancies for a role that matches your interests and experience. If there aren’t any current vacancies, set a job alert on the Careers Vic website to get notified when new roles are advertised. State Revenue Office is a selection under the Department of Treasury and Finance.
Select the job advertisement to find out more about the opportunity and requirements of the role. For any questions about a role, please contact the staff member listed on the job advertisement. If you have a disability and require adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please email us.
In the Victorian Public Service, jobs are classified from Grade 1 (entry level) to Grade 7 (senior technical specialist). Each grade has a different salary range based on the value of the work, as outlined in the current Victorian Public Service (VPS) Agreement 2024.
2. Prepare your application
When you apply, make sure to follow the instructions in the job advertisement, as each role may have different application requirements. Most roles require you to complete an online application form and attach:
- your resume
- a cover letter
- responses to the key selection criteria either in the cover letter or a separate document.
Find more detail on what to include in your application on the Careers Vic website.
Including referees in your application is optional. If you reach the interview stage and are a strong candidate, we’ll ask for 2 work referees. We will not contact them without your permission.
3. Submit your application
First-time applicants must register before submitting an application.
You can save your application and return to it later. Please remember to submit your finished application by the closing date and time stated in the job advertisement.
When you submit your application, you will immediately receive a confirmation email. If you don’t, please contact us.
To change your application before the closing date, withdraw your initial application and submit a new one.
4. Interviews and assessments
Once the advertised role is closed, your application and supporting documents will be reviewed by a selection panel.
We may ask candidates to complete assessments, including:
- online ability or aptitude assessments
- behavioural style questionnaires or psychometric assessments
- telephone screening
- case studies
- written assessments or verbal presentations.
We will contact shortlisted candidates to arrange an interview. Interviews may be in person or online. We do reference checks for preferred candidates.
Before we make an offer, you will need to complete a police check and a pre-employment misconduct screening declaration and consent form. We will request this information when you receive your verbal offer of employment. More information is available on the Victorian Public Sector Commission website.
We will also require evidence of your working rights if you are subject to a visa.
5. Outcome and feedback
Candidates not selected for an interview will be notified by email.
After the interview stage, unsuccessful applicants will receive a phone call and email, and successful applicants will receive details of the next steps.
