This calculator works out the duty that applies when registering a vehicle or transferring the registration to a new owner.
You will need to enter:
- the date the vehicle is registered or the registration was transferred
- whether it is a passenger car or a non-passenger car:
- For passenger cars, select if it is a green car or primary producer car.
- For non-passenger cars, select whether the vehicle is new or used.
- the dutiable value of the vehicle (the vehicle’s total purchase price or market value at registration, whichever is greater).
Who it is for
Anyone registering a new motor vehicle or transferring ownership of a used motor vehicle in Victoria.
When you register or transfer a vehicle, you must declare the correct value.
We use a motor industry valuation guide to determine market value. If we find the value you declared was too low, we may send you a reassessment notice.
Limitations of this calculator
This calculator does not factor in:
- the corporate reconstruction or consolidation concession
- exemptions or concessions other than green cars and primary producer passenger cars.
