Lodge a GAIC notification of a building permit application

Notify us online after receiving a building permit application.

Background information

Building surveyors must notify us within 14 days of receiving a building permit application for land that may be subject to the growth areas infrastructure contribution (GAIC)

You do not need to notify us if the application relates to:

  • demolition of a building or part of a building
  • construction of a single dwelling
  • repair or reinstatement of an existing building
  • any other building with a value less than the indexed threshold, which in 2026–27 is $1,528,532.

To notify us, complete an online GAIC notification.

Step 1: Gather your information

You need the following information to complete the online application:

  • Applicant and/or representative details.
  • Details of the land.
  • Lodging party details.
  • Cost of building work (contract price).
  • Stage of building work.
  • Building permit application details.
  • Nature of building work and proposed use of the building.

Step 2: Complete your application

Enter all the required information in the application form.

Confirm the information is true and correct by providing:

  • the name of the signatory
  • their position and organisation
  • a signature date stamp which appears automatically when you select the field.

You can save your form and finish it later.

When you submit your application, you will be redirected to another page to attach any relevant supporting documents.

We use the information in your application to update our records and share it with other government agencies where we are authorised to do so.

If you have trouble with the application, call us on 13 21 61.

Step 3: Download and save your receipt

After you submit your application, you will see a receipt page.

Record your receipt number (beginning with 'GAIC-Form-03') and quote it if you contact us about your notification.

Download a copy of your completed application and your receipt for your records and as proof of your notification.

Next steps

For some building permit applications, GAIC must be paid before a building permit is issued liability to pay GAIC arises upon making an application.

This does not apply if you make a separate application for a GAIC staged payment arrangement and it is approved.
