Here’s how to search the Victorian Unclaimed Money Register – and what to do if you find money belonging to you.

When a business can’t return money to its rightful owner, they must lodge those funds with the Victorian Unclaimed Money Register. People can then search the register for money belonging to them.

Unclaimed money can include share dividends, salaries and wages, rents and bonds, debentures and interest, proceeds from a sale, and gaming winnings or prizes. 

To search the register, go to the Unclaimed Money page on the SRO website: sro.vic.gov.au/unclaimedmoney.

Click ‘Search for your unclaimed money’ tick the box and click ‘Search the register’. 

Enter your name or business name.

Add the address and postcode you believe the lodging organisation would have had on file. For deceased estates, money may be held under the address of the executor or solicitor.

You may need to enter multiple past addresses or details to find entitlements belonging to you.

For each combination of name and address, you will need to start a new search.

If you find a match, note the reference number and details.

You can then apply to claim that money. Go to sro.vic.gov.au/ucmapply. 

You must provide documents that prove your identity and your connection to the money. 

After you apply, we review your claim and contact you if we need more information. Most claims are processed within 4 weeks.
